  • as for steve his down taunt actually is a greeting, it's very common in the community to do this to show you're not hostile especially in servers where you don't always have the time or ability to chat.
  • I always saw Bowser’s last animation as a reference of how he’s usually defeated. Falling into lava or falling in general. Probably wrong though.
  • Yoshi's wave to the screen taunt is reference to Yoshi's Story. When he sniffs the air and discovers a secret he will turn to the screen striking that waving pose to tell you there is something hidden there. That is what it is taken from.
  • Actually, Luigi's "Aw, Shucks" taunt actually DOES have a reference! Luigi does it for when he loses at a certain mini-game in Mario Party 1 and 2, which I believe pre-dates the 64 Smash Bros.
  • For Bowser's teeter taunt, I always thought it was from Super Mario 64. If Bowser charges you, but reaches the edge, he stops himself and teeters near the edge.
  • If you wanna be pedantic, DK's up taunt could be referencing his idle animation in the first DKC where he stands up and bangs his chest while hollering.
  • 49:57 Robin's "Let's tip the scales/Time to tip the scales" up taunt is a reference to one of their crit quotes in FE Awakening
  • Origin of every item is one that I think no one has really covered yet just in case you need more ideas
  • Steve's downtaunt is a commonly used greeting in minecraft. Before the combat update that added shields one could block with a sword. it would often be paired with the sneaking and 'blocking' of one's swword as a respectfull greeting. Basicaly showing you mean no harm. These days its just the croutching and bowing of one's head.
  • 1:10:09 You most likely didn't see my comment, but this taunt is based on the fight with him in Kingdom Hearts 1. Hit him enough times and he'll do that same hand motion and then do something that'll most likely kill you.
  • @spark1400
You forgot to mention that Pit's voice lines have changed since Smash 4, he now says "Come on" for up taunt and "Is that all you got?" for side taunt.
  • I used to love using Mario's grow taunt, while playing on large mode, and giving him a mushroom
  • The Inklings have to have some of my favorite taunts. Being able to spam he Booyah button like in the original game makes me so happy! Mega Man and Simon are awesome too!
  • @Iranex1
Sora's keyblade spin taunt is indeed a reference to his Olympus Colosseum victory pose there, BUT that itself originally was a reference to Cloud's victory pose from FFVII! Which is even more perfect because that is one of Cloud's taunts too!
  • I’m disappointed that one of Ness’ taunts isn’t a Fuzzy Pickles. That’d be funny. I also would’ve loved the Monkey Dance Taunt for Lucas.
  • @lukeb5117
Sora side taunt where he "grunts" is actually the voice line that can occur when a item is used in the kh games not spells like firaga or thundaga but items like potions or elixirs
  • @tjz3158
Favorite taunts 1. "YOU'RE TOO SLOW!!!" 2. 🎶"La la la la la la."🎶 3. "Show me your moves." 4. "Looking cool Joker." 5. "Hey hey come on."
  • 1:09:53 this is the universal sign of peace much like the air punching. When you crouch like that it’s saying “I’m friendly, I wont hurt you” much like squidbagging can be in Splatoon
  • More info for Cloud's up-taunt. As he is swinging his sword, he shouts "Not interested" in Japanese. This is a reference to Cloud's famous quote during Final Fantasy VII.
  • I always thought the Lon Lon milk taunt was a reference to the ranch owner in OoT who would give you a bottle of milk and say that the best way to drink it is to put a hand on your hip and chug the whole thing. Something like that.
