This week Marques and Andrew dive deep into the new EV tax credit bill and talk about which cars will and won't benefit from it. Then they talk about the current state of social media and rank their favorite apps before finishing it up by talking about to-do lists and calendar apps. Fair warning: this one gets real nerdy! Lately Social Media seems to be more about Media (aka entertainment) than being Social (aka relationship with others)

Also along the conversation of Instagram's recent changes, the main complaints are coming from non-video artists like myself: photographers, painters, graphic artists, comic artists, etc etc, are being penalized for not conforming to a format (video/reels/stories) that is not our own.

Twitter has one of the worst feeds/UX ever. It’s such a mess of replies, quote replies, retweets, replies and quote replies on the retweets, ads, recommended. It’s such a mess.

as someone who lives outside the US and is currently 20, Snapchat feels like it's being phased out by everyone over the age of 14. Most people see it as more of a platform to send funny pics or take funny pics. Still, I rarely see people using Snapchat as a primary communication platform purely because of how annoying some features are to use.

If Tesla drops it's price, the wait times will explode. I think they might raise their prices to keep the demand where it is now

  • I can't live an entire week without saying "If my Calendar and my Reminders apps somehow got deleted I'm a dead man"

Apple just needs to adopt RCS so the very old SMS can finally be decommissioned. Some will argue that eventually carriers will stop supporting it as well so they will have no choice if that happens. However, I don't see carriers doing that until Apple adopts the new replacement which is RCS. So, in my opinion the ball is in Apple's court.

  • Some more details on the new EV tax credit: 1. Manufacturer caps eliminated 2. Credit applies for vehicles purchased beginning January 1, 2023 3. Vehicle must be assembled in North America to qualify for new credit. 4. $7,500 credit is broke into two binary pieces meaning the vehicle either qualifies for each piece of the credit or it doesn’t. No longer based on size of battery. 5. $3,750 of the new credit is based upon the vehicle having at least 40% of its battery critical minerals from the United States or countries with a free trade agreement with the United States. This is a list of countries with free trade agreements with the US. 6. The other $3,750 of the new credit is based on at least 50% of the battery components of the vehicle coming from the United States or countries with a free trade agreement with the US. 7. The 40% minerals requirement increases to 50% in 2024, 60% in 2025, 70% in 2026 and 80% in 2027. 8. The 50% battery components requirement increases to 60% in 2024, 70% in 2026, 80% in 2027, 90% in 2028 and 100% in 2029. 9. Beginning in 2025, any vehicle with battery minerals or components from a foreign entity of concern are excluded from the tax credit. 10. Modified gross income limit of $150k for individuals, $225k for head of household, and $300k for joint returns. 11. MSRP of vehicle must be $80k or less for SUVs, Vans and Trucks. $55k for all other vehicles. 12. Dealer can apply credit at time of sale. Dealer must disclose to buyer the MSRP of the vehicle, the applicable tax credit amount and the amount of any other available incentive applicable to the purchase. 13. Credit terminates December 31, 2032. Also a new $4,000 used EV tax credit. It is similar to the new EV tax credit but has a few different stipulations My assessment: Definitely an improvement over the current EV tax credit. Hopefully they add requirements about battery size or we may see manufactures making cars with tiny batteries and terrible range which will hurt the reputation of EVs. The bill is obviously incentivizing more U.S. manufacturing and battery production which is great. I could easily see automakers software locking EV battery capacity to reduce the upfront price of the vehicle below the cap. Then customers could pay later on to unlock the full range which will allow them to receive the credit and get a technically more expensive vehicle. Tesla did this in Canada. All in all, this will allow more people to afford EV's and help bring manufacturing back to the U.S. That being said, EV demand is already extremely high and this will only increase it. We already do not have enough supply to meet current demand, so this bill may end up increasing the price of EVs in order to stabilize supply and demand. For that reason, I'm not really sure if this bill is necessary, but we shall see!

So glad I am not alone in the tasks and calendar fill-ins.
  • @SureshRajan
These guys sharing their calendar and task routine was so fun 😁😁
  • 56:31 100%. I knew I wasn't alone in my dependence on them!! It's kinda weird but it works extremely well.
  • Just got to the Be Real segment and I’m surprised y’all had so many issues with it. I’ve been having a blast on it with my friends. They have a discovery tab also where you can see new people’s posts who aren’t a part of your friends’ list.

I think the tax credit is mostly a jobs and supply chain bill. They revised it to make sure EV are built and manufactured in American. The consumer rebate is a bonus.
