I needed to do this excerpt!
I got the book and have been excitedly reading through it and the return of a Primarch is a rare affair!
If you have any other suggestions from this book, please, do say so!

Fallen: “I know no fear.” Lionel: uses his son’s full name in an angry tone Fallen: “I know one fear.”

Lion on an imperial world to reveal himself to the Imperium: "Greetings citizens, I am Lion El Jonson and I would like to know just what the hell is going o... IS THAT A FUCKING CHURCH?!"
  • “The brash, swaggering Russ” I love the sadness you put in that line. Russ and The Lion realised too late how well they could have gotten on together

This is basically like Jack Reacher coming up on you, while you're working in a soup kitchen, and then Spitting out your rank and top 6 responsibilities. I'd have been mortified.

I love how this excerpt shows both his abilities as a Primarch and his care for normal humans
  • Girlyman returns- Ultramarines prostrate and bow Lion'el Jhonson returns Gets fired upon
  • Just finshed the audio version. How I loved this book. Tear almost dropped and the very end. The Lion I can truly say I saw him in a different light.

I love the echo of him being discovered here to how he was found on Caliban, a Bolt Pistol fired at him and him dodging it.

I would love to hear the excerpt of the lion learning he's not alone and one of his brothers is alive and kicking.
  • I like the little nod “more theoretical than practical” made about their cloth beds. Perhaps it’s coincidental but I think it’s a reference to the “practical vs theoretical” schtick of heresy era Ultramarines.

WoW! Haven't read much Mike Brooks, but if this is the standard by which he writes, he's a match for ADB or Abnett! Definitely on par with Guy Haley I'd say. Also, such a different take to Lion. In HH books he is this unrelenting brutal exterminator, but here he is actually trying to save civilians AND his 'Fallen' sons! A noble knight befitting of the Dark Angels' Arthurial theme! Man I can't wait to get this book! I can't wait to see where this will take the Lion!

Dude, could you please do a full 40k audiobook or drama? Your voice and the way you read os perfect. Especially from a loyalist view. And I speak as a copywriter with almost two decades of ad agency experience. In that time I've worked with and directed close to 1,000 voice artists. One of my duties is to find the voice to bring my scripts to life and then directing them to get the perfect performance, so I do know what I'm talking about.
