My grandma saw a passenger train being strafed. Many perished, she said. She was a farm girl in Lower Austria. They also strafed farmers working in the fields. The planes were called 'Tiefflieger' back then. A German expression which could be translated to 'low flyers'. When the war ended, the Russians came. Women tried to hide, she said, but not why. However, she never had a bad word for the Allies, and for what they did. It was the war, she said. Grandma left us in 2017, aged 94.

Nice to hear from the Pilots on both sides. Great video.

My gt uncle flew mosquitoes and bostons in 2 Group, 107 Sqn. He flew 30+ sorties most low level. He survived but returned home a broken man. Couldn't settle for long, drank, very quick to raging anger and at times physical. He kept his logbook, maps, journals etc. But never spoke of it. After he died in 1974 he was only remembered for being heavy handed, bad tempered, irritable man. Until we found his logbook et al, we began to realise what he and they went through. It was clear he had severe PTSD. He was a casualty. His family too. So sad. War is not great.

Man merkt fast, dass er froh war, dass der britische Pilot noch lebte.

For a minute I was worried the Typhoon pilot was going to shoot up the people in the field.

My mum and nan were shot up on the sea front by fw190s. She was only 8yrs old. They went there from London to escape the bombing. 2 years earlier she watched her whole school get blown to bits by a German bomber, she was lucky to survive. If she hears an air raid siren on a war film these days, her face goes white
