CHINESE NEW YEAR TIMELINE in Hong Kong | Year of the Tiger 2022 | Lunar New Year traditions

Published 2022-01-16
Chinese New Year's exact date is different each year as Chinese New Year occurs on the 1 day of the Lunar Calendar, and it is also when the first moon appears, so sometime in January or February.

Chinese New Year also known as Lunar New Year, it's also celebrated in places such as Vietnam, Korea, and Japan. In Hong Kong, only the first 3 days of Chinese New Year are public holidays; however, Chinese New Year is celebrated until the 15th of the Lunar New Year, with the Lantern Festival marking the end of the holiday.

Chinese New Year has quite a long prep-time and people get really confused about the timeline so hopefully this will give insight to the red packets, red pockets, lucky envelopes, fai chuns, the red pieces of paper with writing, the food such as the Chinese New Year Eve Dinner, flower and plants, greetings, decorations, the different customs and traditions we need to get ready for!

Welcome to the countdown of Chinese New Year so let's go!

About HUMID WITH A CHANCE OF FISHBALLS TOURS:

“If you like our name, you’ll like our tours” is their motto.
Founded in late 2016, Humid with a Chance of Fishballs Tours is a small grassroots independent company that strives to offer authentic and off-the-beaten path tours so tourists and expats alike can get a taste and glimpse of true local life in Hong Kong.

We run tours in Hong Kong for people that truly want to see the real, true, local and authentic sides of Hong Kong. The stories and information we want to share is about the hole-in-the-wall owners, and about the local foods that have so much history and importance to Hong Kong. We go into shops that don't speak a lick of English, because we bridge the gap between the West and the East. Eat through Hong Kong's heritage, culture and tradition with us!

Support local =) Subscribe, book a tour or buy some merch =D
