Mendelssohn's "Hear my prayer": St Paul's Cathedral 1976 (Rose)

Published 2024-05-23
OUR VERY BEST WISHES TO BARRY ROSE ON HIS 90th BIRTHDAY! We have created a very special birthday tribute on the Archive website - copy and paste to view https://www.recordedchurchmusic.org/rose

Private recording donated to the Archive by Barry Rose and made during evensong in the cathedral on Saturday 17 July 1976. Unusually, it features not one but TWO treble soloists: Craig McLeish who sings the opening section "Hear My Prayer" and Robert Eaton who sings "O for the wings of a dove"

Robert Eaton was tragically killed in the 9/11 attack.

This really is so lovely. Everything under Barry Rose is of such a pure and high quality, I remain honoured to have listened to him speak at St. Leonard's during the Archive's 15th anniversary celebrations in 2018. And how tragic to learn of the sad fate of Robert Eaton in the description
