Algebra takes the idea of a club – a universe of the likeminded – and expands it to new paradigms. The key idea behind Algebra is to bring together a fellowship of people who believe great cities are built not just on infrastructure but a life of the mind; who understand robust and liberal societies need the oxygen of great conversation and nuanced thinking. At a time when we are increasingly surrounded by rage and noise, Algebra is that unique live and continuous space where people could go for a genuine exchange of ideas and exposure to issues; where new seeds could be sparked, fresh perspectives formed, and intelligent connections made.

Algebra – the Arts and Ideas Club is designed to host over 60 conversations over the year with topline thinkers and practitioners from almost every discipline that impacts human affairs: politics, economy, environment, spirituality, cinema, medicine, science, technology, music, media, literature, the arts, sports, people’s movements, et al. In a line, Algebra is a space where one can meet an exciting, cutting-edge spectrum of people shaping the world in different ways. Where one can test one’s ideas, challenge one’s perspectives, and build friendships. A sort of fellowship of the curious and engaged.

Pavan Varma was great in explaining Hinduism, Adi Sankaracharya and Advaitya philosophy. As usual Shoma tried to sway the discussion towards Hindutva and politics.

BRILLIANT speech... and he is right... we ALL need to learn more about Shri Adi Shankaracharya... his life was absolutely fascinating.. and his thoughts & philosophies...are unparalleled in its sophistication & sublime beauty.

I have always respected Pavan for his clarity of thought and the way he cogently presented his points in the many debates I have seen him participate. This is one side of him that I just discovered. He is superbly articulate and a pleasure to listen to!

I wish this forum had anointed a different moderator for this dialogue. Shoma is fine but she lacks the intellectual prowess and inquisitiveness to learn about Adi Shankra. Moreover she is obsessed with tossing words like Hindutva when she doesn't understand the context of it. She stops a beautiful discourse in middle 20:08 and has pre set ideas about Hindu culture. Great talk by Pavan Verma.
  • When our false perception is corrected, misery ends also.”  ― Adi Shankaracarya, Shankara's

Name Algebra came from Arabic name Al-Jabbar who took the knowledge from India and wrote it in Arabic. The Europeans took the Arabic book and translated it into Latin and named it as Algebra to honor Al-Jabbar without the realization that the concept came from India. Hinduism, as the lady put it, is not 'indeterminate'! It is the seekers' path and knowledge changes as the time passes. That does not mean it is confused or indeterminate!! Enjoy the open architecture of the Hinduism!! Mr Verma forgets that Kauravas are there in every generation following Adharma and any amount of debate did not move Duryodhana and war was inevitable! It may not be politically correct for a diplomat to accept violence as a solution, but inevitability prevails!
  • Great articulation of Adi Shankaracharya' s advaitya philosophy by Pavan Varma.

Pavan has done an excellent work on this complex subject! Absolutely fantastic.

Why is this lady so against Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo ? Again and again she refers to their teachings as a " travesty " ...shame on such bigoted brain dead journos . Swamiji and Sri Aurobindo did what they felt was their duty towards Hindus who were completely oblivious towards the situation of India and Indians . They re-instilled a sense of pride in HIndus for their Dharma and Nation which had extinguished as a result of the propagation of the 'colony mindset ' which the British wanted to impregnate into every Indian . Madam you need to do a deep study of the works of these two giants (and hearing the type of relatively low intelligence questions you asked I bet you wont be able to even comprehend most of Aurobindo ) . Yes they were HIndu Nationalists and inspired others as well including Netaji Subhash Bose . Dont like it ? then protest outside Belur Math in Kolkata and Auroville in Pondicherry.

Congratulations to both the ALGEBRA for organizing the dialogue and the speaker for his excellent lucid narration of such an complex abstract topic where clarity is the need of the hour.I strongly recommend all educated Indians especially the young to read his book in the true Indian spirit and if necessary debate in the traditional shastrartha.
  • A fascinating discourse and a very thought-provoking challenge to many scholars. Dr Surender Bhutani Warsaw (Poland)

Totally amazed to see the other side Sri Pavan Varma. It’s good that he relinquished the spokesperson of an infested party like congress and turned to the core elements of Hindu philosophy. 🙏🙏🙏
  • @satyaramc
Brilliant , powerful and logical exposition by Sri Pawan Verma.
  • @pradaeternal9044
What a fantastic speaker! I wanna read the book! So thankful for have heard this one.

Shoma, Dont Compare Love Jihad with these Intellectual Discussions. Shows and displays the shallowness of your thinking. ( Read some UK newspapers You might learn reality.)
  • Mr. Pawan Verma has delved into the Hindu philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya and that was simply great. Many a times even the moderator was hesitant to stop Pawan Verma during his discourse because he explained it so profoundly in a very simple language. This philosophy was not able to stop the invaders and marauders from substituting it with their philosophy of an exclusive faith because there was no dharma guru to stop them as some things can be countered only with the might of swords which the dharma guru did not possess hence the common man had to fend for himself and ended up converting himself as has also happened in Goa during the Portuguese inquisition. We were lucky due to the size of our country that the invaders and marauders were not able to impose their philosophy in this whole land as they did with Zoroastrian Iran and now they have done with the tribal state of Mizoram otherwise nobody would have remembered this philosophy at this point of time as it would have been wiped off from the face of the earth and we would not have seen Pawan Verma and the moderator discussing it. This is where Hindutva and Nationalism comes which I suppose Pawan Verma refers to as Hindu Evangalism. The Hindutva and Nationalism does not restrict others to live peacefully in this land and practice their faith as long as they owe allegiance to this land its laws and its people as they are part of it and not to the land of their faith. The rigors of politics and the reaction to violent radicalism has created fringe elements which every Hindu Nationalist abhors. I have seen Pawan Verma innumerable times on various channels during a debate but he is unable to articulate his position freely in today`s charged political atmosphere and the Kashmir issue due to his political affiliation. It would also be interesting to see a debate between Pawan Verma and Rajeev Malhotra.
  • @coherent5605
Anchor raised question about Gauri Lankesh death but not a word for killing of or deaths of RSS OR BJP or any Hindu activist or supporter??
  • @ARIJITMISHRAam
Shoma has never read Vivekananda or Arabinda otherwise she couldn't have said those insulting words. What a shame to have her as a host.
  • @LokiLoki
Shoma understands the philosophy, but she has read very less on Vivekananda and Aurobindo. She would be amazed how universal their ideas were. I blame her leftist associations for her reaction of Vivekananda and Aurobindo even before knowing. Vivekananda and Aurobindo said the same thing as Adi Shankaracharya but in modern terms and in a way much suitable to today
  • @dk1647
She doesn't a thing about Hinduism and say that ethics doesn't have role in hiduism.what an ignorant
