glad u enjoyed the game. Hopefully this and the up coming ttyd remake allow fans of the newer games to see why we like them so much. and i would Love a Geno spin off game!

SMRPG being a cake walk doesn't bother me so much as the fun factor isn't tied to overcoming great challenges, but rather exploring the Mario world from a, at the time, literal different perspective. Historic context does need to be taken into account though: in 1996 Squaresoft had a bad habit of making their RPGs very complex compared to DQ and Earthbound, so dialing back on the difficulty curve so little Timmy can take a minute to figure out what all these number's mean in his first RPG was a smart move.

Good video. I grew up with TTYD. Smrpg lotss was before my time, but I absolutely still played it on the wii via the game shop. Haven’t gotten around to the remake yet but it looks amazing and I’m excited to play it. I had lost all hope for a proper sequel to ttyd, but after these two remakes, I can’t help but feel like they’ve got to start making the old style of Mario rpgs again. Even if we don’t get a true ttyd sequel, I have a feeling we might at least get a sequel to super Mario rpg. And who knows, that might even end up being better! I think with the remake being so popular, they’ve gotta make a sequel. But then again once the ttyd remake comes out, that’ll probably make even more waves than even this game. Only time will tell

I also felt that same nostalgic feeling despite not growing up with the original version. And I think a big reason for that is because it reminds me of a game that DID grow up with, in my case it was Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. And I think it makes perfect sense that it reminds me Superstar Saga because the main director for Super Mario RPG was also the main director for the latter. And by that logic (on top of Geno’s cameo appearance in the original version), I’d even argue that Superstar Saga could’ve been meant to act as pseudo-sequel to Seven Stars despite the fact that gameplay is actually closer to the first two Paper Mario games (well at least when comparing the battle systems, the platforming of the Mario and Luigi RPGs feels very reminiscent of Seven Stars). And if you don’t see it in the gameplay, then you can definitely see that Superstar Saga is cut from the same cloth as Seven Stars when you compare and contrast the personalities, tone and overall charm between the two games.

Magic attacks in this game can actually be effective if you know which spells to use on which enemies. Using Mallow's thought peak on any enemy will tell you what kind of spells they're weak against. I will say that there should've been an optional hard mode for the base game at least. Also, have you tried re-fighting any bosses in the post game? They're definitely harder than they are in the base game, and you really need to know what strategies to use for them.

I’m really not a fan of Bowser in the Mario + rabbits games. He was barely in the first game, and I really liked that. Not every Mario game needs to have Bowser in it and Bowser Junior being the villain was actually a really fun change of pace. I know people say the megabug is the main villain of the first game, but I really don’t think that’s true. The megabug literally didn’t show up until the last four levels of the game where he replaced Jr as the villain, which was kind of lame. Anyway, I hate how shoehorned in Bowser is in kingdom battle. Instead of just fighting the megabug, you have to fight the megabug Possessing Bowser. Bowser doesn’t do anything else the entire game. He doesn’t even talk. He’s just there so he can be possessed for the final boss. Sparks of hope treats him a bit better, but I still don’t think he should’ve been playable at all. I think bowser jr would’ve made much more sense to join Mario on his journey instead of Bowser. He was the main villain of the first game and he said at the end of that game he would try to be better so maybe they could’ve tried to give Junior some type of character arc. Doesn’t help that Bowser is super shoehorned into sparks of hope as well. The reason he joins Mario is because Cursa is mind controlling his army (if Cursa can mind control a bunch of people at the same time why doesn’t she just do that to Mario’s team, she would win instantly) but you only ever fight mind controlled goombas and magickoopas. Last I checked Bowser’s army has a lot more than just those two species. It just feels like the developers Needed an excuse for Bowser to join Mario without really trying that hard. A much better motivation could have been that Cursa kidnapped Jr. Also you first find Bowser on Palette Prime which is on a completely different planet and it’s never explained how Bowser got there

My personal favorite Mario RPG is technically a tie between Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story. Bowser’s Inside Story has my favorite battle system and mini-games (and to an extent boss battles, not counting the giant fights). But there’s just something about Superstar Saga’s Bros moves and and characters that I feel just can’t be replaced, although Cackletta sucks. She might’ve had a creative design amongst other things but her she had little to no personality and her evil plan was just super cliche. Not to mention that Fawful was implied to have done all the dirty work. And don’t even get me started on the final boss! The battle is repetitive and stupid her attacks just felt either too easy or hard her design just didn’t resonate with me. Also Bowletta was absolutely horrifying.
  • Haven’t gotten in Mario RPG yet but I won’t to very soon. It’s looks real nice to have unique characters again even if it is just a remake. However, I have a small Nitpick. I don’t really like the name Super Mario RPG. It’s just very generic and there are multiple Mario RPGs now. The original game had the subtitle of legend of the seven stars but that seems to have been dropped for this remake. If you ask me, this remake should’ve been called Mario legend of the seven stars since that’s a lot less generic and sounds a lot cooler. Also the box art sucks. I know it’s supposed to be a reference to the original Boxart, but that does it mean it’s good. When I first saw the boxart thought it was a placeholder
