Later sims games: we can't kill kids, or even have significant harm come to them Sims 1: if you don't do well enough in school you will be presumably killed in war
  • I love how we went from "gamers don't play doll house simulator games" to animal crossing having a hard-core gaming fandom
  • The "we're working on your phone lines, don't pick up the next call" is a two-part prank. The prankster calls back a few minutes later and when the person picks up (out of habit) the prankster screams like he's being electrocuted. A classic and one of my favorites!

The Sims 1 burglar music sounds like the emotion someone breaking into your house in the middle of the night while you're home would actually inspire.

One time, in the Pets expansion, I had an orange cat that died from old age and the Grim Reaper came and I was able to plead with him and the cat came back as a green cat with permanently green meters that was basically immortal, so I basically had a zombie cat

Sims 1 town at night is like a liminal space that is ACTUALLY unsettling and scary.
  • I used to always buy the heart bed because I thought it was cute when I was a kid. I now understand why my mom and sister kept asking me why I was choosing that bed.

I never got to play the sims 1 but MY GOD the idea of your sim waking up in the middle of the night to a burgler shoving their baby (basinet and all) into a sack is kind of funny lol
  • The fact that the devs made a point to include same sex relationships is really touching, especially considering all of the testimonies I’ve heard from queer people who’s first experience outside of heteronormative and cisnormative world was through playing the sims and living out their true ideal lives
  • The description of the vibrating bed killed me. "The vibration engine is Swedish of course, but we have done a lot of testing with a pair of 300 pound dummies."

After putting at least 100 hours into The Sims, I got that upside down face glitch on an entire family. Not only did it scare the hell out of me, I thought my whole game was corrupted and it might hurt my computer so I literally never played it again. So that’s how my time with The Sims 1 ended.

It's so crazy seeing how hard same sex relationships were fought for in the sims because I remember a huge part of me coming to terms with my sexuality as a kid was having my girl sims date girls and my boy sims date boys practically exclusively. Even when I didn't, my m/f couples overtime always warped into lavender marriages
  • This is the only sims game where my family actually drove me to murder. I’d made a nice little family with biographies and everything, but they somehow managed to blow all their money and the house started to look like a crackden. The kids were in danger of being repossessed by the Big Orphan industry. So I ordered the adults to go read the newspaper bc they could get a legit good job (it took them 3 sims-hours to get across the living room btw) only to get this message: “I’m too depressed to work.” They were depressed because they were POOR. Little me got a taste for the indoor fireworks death that day 💀
  • That anti-homophobia message from Don Hopkins was awesome, what a legend!
  • That note from Don Hopkins tho, so pivotal to the success of the sims in my opinion (I know many a gay who played it for that reason, myself included) and just generally really wonderful to see. One of those moments that makes me have faith in humanity
  • Oh my GOD that upside down lady scared the absolute shit out of me as a child! I remember calling my dad into the room screaming and crying because that wasn't my Sim and I was so scared lmfao
  • Many fans have said that the Tragic Clown is supposed to represent depression in a way. He’s a pest that makes you miserable until you call for help. Although it’s not this simple in real life, I can see it
  • @InazumaDash
Memory unlocked. My first Sim family was a single father with two sons. One day the kitchen was set on fire and the father and one brother dies while the youngest son cleaned up their ashes while crying.

I was playing around in The Sims recently and found a painting that hints towards the guinea pig disease. Its called "The Forgotten Guinea Pig" and has a little poem that suggests its a curse from a resentful pet!
  • @jorxcore
I was all like " I was not scared at all" but then "the end is near. Make preparations." OMG did it hit me hard.
