Destoroyah's Japanese and English names both come from "destroyer," which comes from the Oxygen Destroyer weapon that spawned him. A possible reason that the name "Destroyer" isn't commonly used in various markets is that the word itself could not be trademarked by Toho. He is often referred to as "Destroyer" in dubbed versions of the film, while "Destoroyah" is Toho's official name for the character.
Destoroyah receives his name in the film when Dr. Ijuin witnesses the monster's juvenile forms merge together into their aggregate form. He remarks that Micro-Oxygen does not have that kind of power and that these creatures have become a living Oxygen Destroyer, giving it the name Destoroyah.

  • Most terrifying kaiju of all time, even more than shin Godzilla. And the fact he was holding his own against the likes of Burning Godzilla is a testament to his power.
  • Considering they detonated an oxygen destroyer in the 2019 film, they have given themselves the avenue to bring in Destoroyah, which I hope they do and do it well. By far my favorite monster monsterverse villain

So that explains why fans cheered when in KotM mentioned the "oxygen destroyer" weapon.

Destoroyah is real cool. I want him in monsterverse
  • @tommyfox854
The Oxygen Destroyer was named and used in Godzilla: King of all Monsters; so undoubtedly Destroyah will make its comeback.
  • Destoroyah as a Kaiju is a really cool and menacing, I really like the evolution stages of destoroyah as he starts out from a trilobite that gets mutated from the oxygen destroyer, the weapon that kills Godzilla, then becomes the xenomorph like crab monsters, before transformering into the final version, which reminds me lot of the Balrog from lord of the rings. Destoroyah is a great Kaiju and Godzilla vs destoroyah is a great movie.
  • @Lokheim
As long as he still looks like a huge bug-dragon hybrid in the monsterverse, i’m happy
  • Don’t forget it’s actually been said that destroyers evolution didn’t end with his final form meaning if he’s like shin Godzilla you’ll keep evolving and growing

Destoroyah is definitely Godzilla's greatest enemy, and such a great enemy requires a great design. Each form tops the last, each packing a punch of their own but all managing to fill me with terror every time I watch Godzilla vs Destoroyah. Destoroyah, at least to me, represents exactly what a good villain should truly be-a true demon to challenge the king, one last time.

  • Destoroyah should be in the Monsterverse, but I’m hoping they Destoroyah in the future movie like Destroy all Monsters
  • @samdiaz1059
He's one of my favorites. I really love his flight form
  • @Nomadx83
We really need him in the Monsterverse...
  • @goldfinger1528
This Destoroyah will eat the 3 heads of Ghidorah for breakfast, lunch and dinner. True demonic manifestation, exceeding even the terrifying Shin Godzilla.
  • @JustADude01
I just hope we see glimpses of Destroyah in the upcoming movies where his forms are shown and he’s been teased leading up to a film where he has been built up through all these teasers so we get action like Kong vs Godzilla
  • @ZillaGodJohn
