Critic: "Pokemon fans, we come in peace." Me: Casually sets down pitchfork

It's kinda odd hearing someone say that "Mewtwo" is a name they can't take seriously. Growing up with Pokémon one kinda just automatically connects that name with something powerful, tragic and wise. It's interesting tbh

Here’s the thing about the effects. They may not always look convincing, but there is a balance to be struck looking just convincing enough to get invested while still capturing the feel of the original artwork. Honestly, and maybe this is a controversial statement, but Detective Pikachu hits that better than any of Disney’s live action remakes.

Every time I watch a movie where the protagonist has to talk to someone others can’t see/hear, I always think: “pull out your phone and pretend you’re talking on it.” I’m so glad someone finally did that in this movie
-
In the early seasons, “Game of Thrones sucks!” Would have gotten angry booing from the imaginary audience. Now, I imagine it getting applause.
-
“Is an inspiring speech by Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu moving or stupidly hilarious? “Why can’t it be both?”
-
The best part of this movie was the Bulbasaur pack. Every bit of lore from the games and show say Bulbasaur is a pack animal. You will never see just ONE Bulbasaur by itself. Me: “They’re moving in herds. They do move in herds.”
-
The whole "Fusing" power that Mewtwo has isn't actually a thing in Pokemon.. It's only a thing in this movie.
-
Detective Pikachu is better than "live action" Lion King.
-
Doug: "Detective Pikachu is a pretty good movie." 2020 sure is a weird year.
-
Remember: this is an American life action adaptation of a Japanese video game. History shows this should have been awful three times over but instead the result is "fine" at worst. I personally enjoyed it just fine as a Pokémon fan in my 30s

Some of the fluffier Pokemon didn’t look as cute to me but all of the sins were made up for with that ADORABLE BULBASAUR!!!

Critic: game of thrones sucks Game of thrones fans: Yes

SO, my friends and I were watching this in a near empty theater, and when pikachu got hit and was suddenly dying, my friend leaned over and just "Is that because ground is super effective against electric types?" and we just bust out laughing and ruined the moment.

The movie was by no means a masterpiece, but it was still one of the very few actually good video game based movies out there.
-
If Doug was born 20 years earlier, he'd feel the same way about Ninja Turtles.
-
Detective Pikachu was alright, it’s not a masterpiece, but it’s one of the few video game based movies done right, even if you despise Pokémon!
-
I think one of the most badass things about this film is how they got a male actor and a female actor to speak in unison in order to get the voice of Mewtwo.

Critic is evolving. He’s moving on from the dead joke.
