Machine Gun to kill Chaff and Gatling Gun to teamkills
  • With the reduced cooldown it definitely feels like they’re different now, the gatling sentry is like an area clearer on bugs, while the mg sentry is now almost like a seaf soldier strategem who you can call down more often to get attention off of you
  • @Fishrokk
If you're on one of the geological survey missions, the only pertinent question on this subject is: "Why not both?".
  • Always said the machine Gun sentry only needed a shorter cooldown to make it a viable sentry again. I was so super glad Arrowhead listened, I can get 2 uses out of the machine gun sentry by the time I get to use the Gatlin again and now it is one of my favorite sentries. =:D

I've seen people use the gatling like a CIWS against shriekers. Which is pretty fricking cool so long as nothing with heavy nearby is distracting it.
  • The MG sentry is great for stealth. If you get too much heat, throw one behind the enemy horde and they all forget about you
  • I watched your spear/Gatling video, first game it really popped off, second game my buddy used it as well with different eagles on helldive we had little to no issues. We were killing biles that weren’t even a problem
  • @snoozy7698
They're really good at killing bugs w/ lvl 3 armor and hits a brick wall when facing lvl 4-5 armor. Which could be your anti-bile spewer if you don't what a MG/HMG.
  • Personally, I prefer the MG turret. It wastes less ammo and so it can kill far more bugs than the Gattling. The GT roughly can kill 20 enemies, and it is out of ammo, while the MGT can kill 35–40 enemies.
  • @Bizcaz
if they doubled the ammo capacity of the NG Sentry, i would be happy. that would put it at 2/3 the capacity of the gatling sentry, and with 2/3 the cooldown, they would become "balanced" even though they perform different roles

Great vid, shield on the back is ingenious
  • @HazopGaze
I play almost exclusively bots. Using MG Sentry as a flanker is probably my go-to method for it since it shuts down the Heavy Devastator's shield shenanigans. They either have to keep pushing me and get shot in the side / back, or turn on the sentry and get shot in the side / back. It's also a nice response to Berserkers.
  • Great vid, I like MG sentry + Rocket sentry are a great combo, you throw the MG as a lure mostly and to split fire 3 ways while the rockets kill everything
  • With the new updates to the machine gun sentry, I've had a lot of success running it with AMR, Jump Pack, and Airstrike, even on Helldive. I use the machine gun sentry essentially to "Cover my own ass" when in a high ground firing position. The cooldown update giving it superb uptime means I pretty much always have one available, even whenever I need to shoot and scoot to a new position.
  • Gatling shreds mediums like brood commanders and bile spewers a lot faster than MG, but MG is more efficient. Against bots, the key is to position the turrets in a flanking position, even the MG turret can chew through quite a few devastators this way. The biggest problem with sentry against bots is they focus on fabricators and waste all of their ammo
  • Even before it was patched, MG sentry was better against wandering patrols and static spawn enemies, and gatling better vs breaches and dense groups. The MG doesn't waste ammo between enemies like the gatling does. MG also makes a better "battle buddy" like you said easier to work around, but really you will almost never get gibbed by the MG unless you have no situational awareness at all. It doesn't keep firing between enemies, its just firing because theres another enemy directly behind you. On patrols the MG sentry will consistently get 20-30 kills, on a heavy dense pack/breach with good placement the gatling can get 40+. If you throw the gatling at a light patrol, it will get less kills than the MG by the time it burns all of it's ammo. With the lower cooldown, the MG is my go to for running in between points- it will clear light patrols on its own if you dont want trouble but a patrol is right in your path. It's also great to throw behind you when disengaging. On bugs I will run both if there is plenty of anti-heavy already in the group. I used to run various Eagles or orbitals for chaff clear, but I get way more kills with these two turrets, and as much as the gatling will absolutely team kill, it's way less likely to do so than most your big airstrike and orbital chaff clears.
  • i think a good fix would be either increase the armor pen on the mg by 1, increase tthe damage of bullets by 10-20 points, or make it actively target smaller enemies so it doesn't waste all its ammo on chargers

As for all sentries: Watch the elevation! Always place your sentries higher or lower than yourself to massively reduce the risk of becoming collateral.

This is what I've been running for two days. Blitzer, gren pistol, stun grenade, e napalm, precision, EAT, MG sentry. It's a lot of fun and well rounded.
