On December 13th, 2013, a student gunman, Karl Pierson, entered Arapahoe High School and fatally wounded student Claire Davis and traumatized all of us, whether directly or indirectly. Ms. Parmenter (choir director) conducted this song and wrote the spoken parts to portray the immense amount of destructive violence in this world and to affect at least one member of the audience for good. The children of this world are aching, begging for some stability in the chaos they are facing. We need peace. We cannot continue forward without hope, and the children are our hope. There is hope for a better day still to come, we just need to work harder to reach it.

The Arapahoe High School Concert Choir, March 8th, 2017. If you were affected in any way by this video, please leave a comment below describing how you felt or leaving a positive message. Thank you for watching.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own this music, I only sang it and my mother videoed it. :) (I am in the second row towards the right and the 3rd to last speaker in the beginning with the long brown hair.)

Lyrics: Can you hear the prayer of the children On bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room? Empty eyes, with no more tears to cry Turning heavenward, toward the light Crying, "Jesus, help me To see the morning light of one more day; But if I should die before I wake I pray my soul to take." Can you feel the heart of the children Aching for home, for something of their very own? Reaching hands, with nothing to hold on to But hope for a better day, a better day Crying, "Jesus, help me To feel the love again in my own land; But if unknown roads lead away from home Give me loving arms, away from harm." Can you hear the voice of the children Softly pleading for silence in a shattered world? Angry guns preach a gospel full of hate Blood of the innocent on their hands Crying, "Jesus, help me To feel the sun again upon my face; For when darkness clears I know you're near Bringing peace again.

Absolutley heartwarming I'm gonna lightly and non-agressivly accidently slap whoever disliked this video.☹
  • finding this from the ted talk, I hate that things like this happen, I hate that its actually common in America. I hate that young souls who are yet to find a purpose are robbed of their life. I hate that shooters don't get the help they truly need. I hate that the parents feel useless while their children are in serious danger else where. I hate that the teachers are burdened with a task such as helping so many students survive the shooting. this tribute is so genuine and emotional and really well done! stay safe everyone <3
  • this is beautiful. the tedtalk video came up on my recommended and i thought it would be a good opportunity to educate myself more on the mentality behind school shootings. i went scrolling though the comments and found yours, and i really wanted to see what your director had made as a tribute. this is so sad and i am heartbroken for everyone affected, whether it be directly or indirectly. sending love <3
  • I’m so sorry you had to go through this. I came here from your Ted talk comment.

for me it is so shocking that this is happening. I live in the Netherlands and we don't hear much about this it really is horrible. There should really be more done about this. But you people do and i think that it is so wonderfull that you do. I know a lot of kids are trying to stop it and I think people should start listining more to wat you are trying to say. I just wanted to say that you have my full support and i wish everyone who this has happend to so mutch love to so they can try to overcome it, and to the family of victems the best and hope and believe that they are in the richt place for them.
  • This is such a beautiful and important song. It started as me watching TEDTalks while doing homework, and then I found your comment on the TEDTalk about this very shooting. I knew I had to watch it, and I don't regret it. I feel horrible for those who lost loved ones or had their families hurt in this.

I must say, you should leave comments on really old videos. they seem to be getting recommended a lot more now. Hope you and your family are well past, present, and future

saw your comment on a ted talk. decided to come here to listen to this beautiful tribute. an event like that is my worst fear actually and i cant begin to imagine how that felt regardless of how close you were to the actual shooting. i know it was years ago but something like that can stick around for a while so I hope the memory still isn't burning a hole into your psyche.

This is so beautiful and conveys so much emotion. I saw the Ted talk that you commented on and came here. This is a wonderful tribute and I'm so sorry you had to go through the trauma. nobody should have to have that happen to them, or anyone they know. I hate that this happens in the world and this genuinely brought me to tears. I hope you are doing ok. To the beautiful, innocent lives lost, may they rest in everlasting peace.
  • Among all the videos to watch first when I sat down, I was hoping for something funny to cheer me up, but nothing looked good. when I saw this one standing all alone my first instinct was fear, fear of my feelings, fear of grieving, but I grieve with you! and hopeful that we can learn together how to keep the flame of Hope and Love always. Love You, whoever you are!
