I have been in Beijing for a long time now and never had the will to visit Tianjin (a 30 minute train ride away).... But, I heard good things about it and finally got tickets! So, this is my Tianjin Vlog! We spent a weekend in Tianjin and visited most of the "tourist" spots and had a really good time. I even rode the Tianjin Eye, which was my first time riding a ferris wheel!

More about Tianjin from Wiki:
Tianjin is a municipality and a coastal metropolis in Northern China on the shore of Bohai Sea, it is one of the nine national central cities in Mainland China, with a total population over 15.6 million. This makes it one of the largest cities in the world.

The walled city of Tianjin was built in 1404. As a treaty port since 1860, Tianjin has been a major seaport and gateway to Beijing. During the Boxer Rebellion the city was the seat of the Tianjin Provisional Government. Under the Qing dynasty and the Republic of China, Tianjin became one of the largest cities in the region. At that time, numerous European-style buildings and mansions were constructed in concessions, many of which are well-preserved today. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Tianjin suffered a depression due to the policy of the central government and Tangshan earthquake, but recovered from 1990s. Nowadays Tianjin is a dual-core city, with its main urban area (including the old city) located along the Hai River, which connects to the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers via the Grand Canal; and Binhai, a New Area urban core located east of the old city, on the coast of the Bohai Gulf. As of the end of 2010, around 285 Fortune 500 companies have set up base in Binhai. Since 2010, Tianjin's Yujiapu Financial District has become known as China's Manhattan.

That's cool! I am planning to go to Tianjin as well. It seems to be a nice city. Thanks for the video! <3
  • Wow, the market looks great! Didn't expect those cakes to be so solid haha! It looks really nice there by the river, the lights are really stunning. It does look surprisingly european there, you don't get that feeling in China very often. Great views from the eye! Jianbing looks good too! I like the look of the porcelin house, so colourful! It almost looks like Barcelona in there

All the food looks so good! Love the markets when we travel, such a good way to see a lot of food (and cultural) diversity. Tianjin looks pretty cool…nice and relaxed. The Eye looks fun…great views! I went on the London Eye a while back. Love the mosaic house…so cool! Great video…thanks for sharing!
  • It's been a year and three months since my last jian bing so I cried a little when you mentioned it 😅 thank you so much for sharing! I miss the culinary adventure that is China! The city looks fun too :) thanks for sharing.
  • That's funny how the ancient part is so new lol There were certainly a lot of people, but it looks fun! Congrats on your first Ferris wheel ride!
  • I agree with your friend - that place really does look like the French concession in Shanghai! 😀 And that Mozaic House place reminds me of a Gaudi creation (like Park Guell or Casa Batllo in Barcelona!)! Not been anywhere in Northern China - Tianjin looks like a bit of calm to go to from Beijing

Your Chinese is very good; the little that I heard. And I enjoyed your video! My mother's family was from Tianjin, but that was a very long time ago. Her father went to Cornell in Ithaca, NY back in 1906. My son got accepted to Cornell but instead went to Haverford College in Pennsylvania. But I digress.

At first I thought your video was mislabeled as it didn't look like China at all. Then it did a 180. Very cool that there was different styles of architecture. The food looked delicious especially the deserts. Thanks for sharing!
  • I never made it to Tianjin when I lived in China. It seems like the perfect city to go for a weekend. I miss Chinese street food a lot. It's always so nice to walk around and try different food. I love ferris wheels so much! Great view and also a great view from your hotel. The porcelain house looks stunning. So many beautiful details. I agree with Miguel that the European style area seems to have a bit of the same vibe as the French Concession in Shanghai. I am so impressed that you speak Mandarin. How many years have you lived in China? /Marion - Dreamy Travel Story
