I still like shopping at the malls. I would rather shop in person and try things on then buy online and then have to send it back because it doesn't fit

Once the malls became popular, they jacked up their prices to beyond reasonable.

Macys need to save money on fireworks and parades

With many Americans living paycheck to paycheck, inflation and high cost of living, manufacturing jobs going overseas, and compounding large amounts of debt, stores like Macy's and malls across the national will continue to struggle.

I stopped going to Macy's when they started selling the same low quality crap as everyone else only at ridiculous prices. I remember back in like 2017 I bought a couple $200 sheet sets from there. The seams were off and they got ruined in the wash. To their credit they took them back but if I wanted that kind of low quality garbage I would have bought $20 sheet sets from Walmart. I gave them another chance and purchased some expensive Hotel brand bath sheets. They started fading and falling apart within 6 months. I ended up buying some bath sheets from Target and they still look and feel like new even after 7 years. The ones from Target were 1/4th the price. My last Macy's purchase was a couple of $350 pillows. They weren't bad but they were ridiculously overpriced. I ended up returning them because I found pillows that were just as good for $50 at Target. Both were made of down and high quality. I haven't been to Macy's since. Target's quality has sadly gone downhill now but at least they're not blowing smoke up your butt selling you garbage for 10x what it's worth and pretending it's top quality.

I hate the trend of stores having digital coupons that require their app.. nobody wants twenty store apps on their phones. Sick of making so many accounts. 😵‍💫

The closure of Macy's flagship store on the west coast, in San Francisco, is truly sad. A downtown fixture for man generations is leaving. Christmas trees, holiday lights, commerce, jobs, terrific clothing and merchandise - all leaving the City by the Bay. People laughed at those who described the Doom Loop years ago - well before the pandemic. The crime, the filth, the rampant shoplifting - well these forecasters were right. And the citizens didn't listen. Even today the mayor continues to say that she is looking forward to whatever might replace Macy's. The answer is nothing. Just look at the Galleria nearby. Or walk within one half mile of Macy's and see for yourself what conditions are, and the boarded up windows (they actually use opaque plastic wrap). Fortunately there are still some nice shopping areas left outside of the city, and hopefully people will visit those.

I feel bad for the workers being fired Bad for the economy
  • I find it hard to think of a serious reason to go to a mall. They are full of pop-culture stores that do not sell practical goods. People can't afford to mindlessly browse for novelty junk anymore. This includes Macy's, they sell way overpriced made in China junk. All the clothes are over $100 for fast fashion garbage.

Who would've thought ridiculously priced clothes would be hard to sell in an economy where wages aren't raising with inflation? Especially we can buy stuff cheaper online without leaving the house

I used to work at Macys at the Home Department and really the haunting them is definitely the expensive pricing they have. Also rising online commerce is rising and people more shopping online than malls do.

They are expensive and there’s only one left in my home town.

Very sad since I used to shop at macys all the time in the early 2000s.

Not everyone has cars to just drive around and spend the day at the mall. Especially younger people, many don’t have cars and just shop online.

I work part time at Macy’s and our store manager discussed this just today. Customers are asking if we’re closing but we honestly don’t know yet. I have a full time job (thank goodness) but it will be sad for full timers if we did close.

Last time i went to Macy's was about 9 years ago. I usually just shop at Walmart and Goodwill now.

The last time I was in Macy's I asked a sales cleark for some help, he looked at me like I was bothering him. And he went back to talking with his co-worker, I looked at him and said hey I'm a customer in this store. I was looking for a new suit ( for me and yes I do wear them only when I have too ) he finely asked what was I looking for. I told him a nice 3 piece and shoes to match, after finding a nice black one and it fit perfectly I said I'll take this and the shoes. He had to the nerve to ask if I was going to pay this on 3 or 4 payments, I looked at him said in that case I would like the same thing in gray with another pair of shoes. After that he said the two suits and shoes came out to around $1,200. I handed him my platinum card and asked if he knew how to ring that up. After that I went to the store G.M. and told him what his clerk in the mens wear said. I then said and now I want to return everything and take my business someplace else. That was the very last time I was in Macy's and I haven't been back in almost 7 years.
