What is Orochi ? What is its goal ? Why Kyo, Iori and Chizuru are destined to fight it ? And how everything is related to the King Of Fighters tournaments ?
This video tells the story of the Orochi saga which includes the events that occurred during KOF 95, KOF 96 and KOF 97 as well as the origin of the conflict between the Orochi clan and The three sacred treasures (the clans of Kusanagi, Yata and Yagami).

One thing that I love about KoF, is that character stories are the same from their original games until KoF starts, so Terry still is the winner of Fatal fury's tournaments, while the Sakazaki's clan still the master of their karate style, I had never played Art of Fighting before KoF, so I was totally lost of their backstory at first, this was a master move by SNK, the game instantly had massive lore behind it And the Orochi saga is still the best saga of any fighting game to date, although there was some things missing here, like it was Ralf and Clark that stopped Leona's riot of the blood state in 97, but overall this video is great

As a kid, I was just having fun playing the game and had ZERO idea what was going on. Thanks for the recap, I'm actually impressed at how good the story is for a fighting game!

SNK has awesome storyline. Glad someone could piece it together.
  • @macparnami
A fighting series whose story makes sense :P
  • @VixXstazosJOB
What's even cooler about Orochi, is that he came from an actual irl religious legend, not just a videogame invention

Kyo:The fire is calling you Iori:Then let it burn...

So picking KYO,IORI,CHUZURU actually triggers the REAL ending? MY WHOLE DAMN LIFE WAS A LIE.
  • @williamhowe1
Where the series all began. With one OP boss in a red suit.
  • @saiken811
Fun fact for those who don't know: Iori's surname "Yagami" (八神)literally means "eight gods". This surname was probably chosen to symbolise the eight-headed serpent.
  • @handless7677
I love that there's even a narrative explanation for the sub bosses.
  • I swear I've been waiting to learn the entire story since 1998. Thank You.

Years of trying to find unusual/'different' MUGEN characters and only bumping into your standard brash youth with a troubled backstory and future ambitions cough from street fighter, King of Fighters, and, er, anime fighting games... has made me wonder what the hell the story was behind that 'Orochi' guy. I needed this one, thank you. Including parts of actual fighting game footage as parts of the story explanation was a nice touch.
  • Definitely more interesting than Street Fighter. I've been wanting to understand the lore as well. Thank you!

Seeing people talk about Orochi in a non Mugen context is weird to me. However, it is nice to know the actual origins of the character that inspired so many edits.

For a long time I thought Yuki was successfully sacrificed and when she said she'll wait for Kyo, that meant she was waiting for him in the after life. A much more bittersweet ending. His girlfriend is dead, but he saved the world. To be honest, that sounds like a better ending, but I'm still happy with what actually happened.
  • I never thought about how dark the series is in general. Especially 94-97. Theu eased up the darkness quite a bit during 99 and up. Then again it's still dark but the anime aesthetic probably makes it seem less crazy.
  • @FatherUno
Here after KOF allstars was global released
