How two feuding countries are tearing apart the Middle East.

The Saudis and Iranians have never actually declared war on each other. Instead, they fight indirectly by supporting opposing sides in other countries and inciting conflicts. This is known as proxy warfare.

And it’s had a devastating effect on the region. Countries, especially poor ones, can’t function if there are larger countries pulling strings within their borders.

And that’s exactly what's happening in the Middle East. The Saudi-Iranian rivalry has become a fight over influence, and the whole region is a battlefield.

A complex yet somehow straight forward summary. It would be appreciated if you came out with an updated version of this conflict. Thank you!

USA is like that one friend who joins the game completely uninvited
  • This video dramatically underplays the conflict between Sunni and Shia, its importance in regional disputes, and the violence entangled in that conflict. It also largely ignores the brutal and authoritarian nature of the governments that are Saudi Arabia and Iran, as well as many of the other countries in the region, and how this played a role in the power politics of the middle east. Overall if you knew nothing about the middle east and then watched this video, you would walk away understanding the region less.

Great video VOX, but what it misses out on critically is the theological divide (at least for modern Islam) that has been fueling these cold wars, as well as the the war on tangible capital assets, um, mainly black liquid spewing out from the earth’s core.
