Cap the amount the government will guarantee for student loans, so there is no more blank check backstop for higher education institutions to just jacking up administrative fees and tuitions for college education.

I have an idea. Let's just forgive ALL debts. We could start with mortgages, auto's, and credit cards. I'm in!
  • Anybody thinking it's ok to make the less fortunate pick up their bill is the definition of entitled. People making 30k a year will help pay the bills of people with highest earning potential in their lifetime. Pathetic and its just a attempt to buy the vote. Absolutely shameful.

Takeaway: people would’ve been unsatisfied no matter what decision the president made on this matter

Federal loans should be interest free if they really want to help low-income students.

Forgiveness to people making a 6-figure income ($125,000! $25O,000 for a couple!). Why should people who never went to college have to pay for their neighbor's graduate degree? And student loan debt is never really canceled. It falls on the backs of taxpayers!

McConnell is a slap in the face to working class families. He would rather the hand outs to his wealthy donors.
  • "the average debt is $30k", this is incorrect. It is well over $50k.

100's of millions of people will now pay more in higher sales tax due to higher inflation to offset the funding required to pay the student loans, there is no such thing as free $.
  • To those of you who never had student loan debt, congratulations, you do now.

I’d love to see where they got the information for their claim of $16,000 being the cost for a 4 year tuition in 2021.
  • It’s not canceling student debt. It’s transferring it onto tax payers

Graduate Students - masters and doctorate degrees hold the majority of students debt- JUST GAVE $10k to wealthy people

Somebody please start speaking up for single people with one income. Never one mention. We’re the ones having to make up for a second income and no handouts. I’m fine but it’s not any easier for us.

As someone who paid off their debt entirely…I am NOT mad at this!! People are complaining about Biden Administration helping out the Ukraine…but when he’s helping us Americans canceling $10-20k the entire world goes nuts?! Wow!! Just shows that people will NEVER be pleased no matter what you do! Thank you for helping those struggling families out there cancel their student loans. It is NOT perfect but there are people out there really struggling and we should be better than this!
  • Congratulations if you didn’t have student debt… NOW YOU DO!!! 🤔

I'm really happy for people who are getting their loans forgiven. It sucks for those of us who now have loans now privately held. Same education, but those who made financial choices to try and get loans under control are still stuck holding the bill. This is only a half-measure. Again, I'm really happy for those who get some relief. And Sen. Warren is somewhat in the right direct to talk about making education affordable going forward, but still only a half-measure. Other nations want their populations educated, and don't put them into deep debt in the process.

The question is why do schools increase the amount every year for decades especially when the school doesn’t change
