    Great video Tim. I'm a firm believer in doing my own oil changes and most other maintenance. This one looks like a royal pain. There's no excuse for Toyota not putting a small door in that skid plate so you can drop the filter. Aftermarket companies like RCI do it. It should be a factory option so all those other bolts aren't constantly being loosened and tightened each oil change.

    GM and Honda have been doing the oil life percentage for a long time, it’s nicer to see Toyota follow as well.
  • I am blown away that they make you take the entire skid plate off. My second GEN TRD pro has a little spot where you just unbolt a few bolts and there’s a rectangle that is removed and you can easily get the filter. What a joke.

    Oil change on the tundra is easy. I have done 4 changes in 8k miles. If you can’t remove 4 bolts to remove the skid plate to gain access to the oil filter you shouldn’t be changing your own oil. I use race ramps that I bought for my challenger and it’s easy easy easy to do an oil change. Air filters are easy also and the cabin filter. I would pay for the spark plugs to be replaced as it’s to hard to get to. Don’t forget you have to drop the air dam to change the oil.

    I have a 2023 pro. The oil change is easy. There's tabs that hold the skid place up once the bolts are removed. Also, there is a great oil catch you can attach a hose to to drain the oil to keep it from getting all over your under carriage.

    My old Chevy S10 ZR2 had a skid plate over the oil filter but there was a little door to access it.

    Would love to see a long term tear down of engine with oil changes only by monitor schedule

    Removing the wheel well liners will likely be the best way to access the spark plugs.
  • These vehicles nowadays aren’t meant to be worked on in your driveway. The dealerships want you to go back and spend money on maintenance

    I really wanted a Tundra, but I want something (very) long term that won't break the bank either in initial cost and maintenance repair. Sadly, I gave up on Toyota and picked up a 2020 F150 with the Plain-Jane 3.3 NA V-6 and the 6-speed auto. The web seems to have very little bad to say about that combo and the bonus is the Ford has an aluminum body. I plan on keeping it 20 years unless it turns out to be a POS, OR Toyota ever again offers a NA engine in the Tunda or Tacoma.

    It’s a twin-turbo V-6 Tundra. You don’t change the oil you change the engine. Oh, just had to be a wise guy. 🙄

    One air filter per turbo. That thing must flow an amazing amount of air.
