I can't believe you did not read the part with the table and the chairs... ‘So, this,’ the Lion said, gesturing to the long table. ‘This surprises me. A work of emotion, not logic.’ The light of the late afternoon, discoloured by the storm, flooded the chamber through high windows. A long table, carved from stone, dominated the length of the room. Around it were twenty-one chairs, all built for the scale of a primarch. Each one was cut from the same mountain granite as the table. The chair backs were draped with banners. The great seat, at the head of the long table was draped with the pennant of Terra. Two of the other pennants were plain and made of bleached, un-dyed cloth. The other eighteen were the banners of the Legiones Astartes. ‘You did this?’ The Lion asked. ‘Are you mocking it?’ asked Guilliman. The Lion shook his head. ‘It moves me. You still believe in a day when all of us, all of us, can sit at a table with our father, as equals, and talk of the matters of empire.’ ‘All of us,’ Guilliman nodded. ‘You made this room in anticipation of that?’ ‘Yes, many years ago. Does that make me sentimental?’ asked Guilliman. ‘No, brother,’ said the Lion. ‘It shows you possess a soul.’ He set his hands on the back of one of the chairs bearing an un-dyed banner and leaned. ‘Two will never come,’ he said. ‘Yet their absence must be marked,’ replied Guilliman. ‘Places must be left for them. That is simply honour.’ The Lion straightened up, and slowly pointed, in turn, at the banners of Horus, Magnus, Perturabo, Mortarion, Curze, Angron, Alpharius, Lorgar and Fulgrim. ‘Others will never take their seats, unless as conquerors,’ he said. ‘I know,’ said Guilliman. ‘Yet their places must be kept. I believe in the Imperium… In the continuity of the Imperium.’ ‘That it will endure?’ ‘That it must endure. That we must make it endure.’

“Everything is fine Guilliman. I have a minor bat problem on my ship.” Konrad screeching as he plows into a squad of Dark Angels. “But my Knights have it covered.”

"HE swung at our primarch!!" "Our Suspicions are confirmed!" "the space wolves are working with the FALLEN!" "Make Him REPENT ASMODAI"
  • The Lion is the right son to conquer an empire. Robute is the right son to build the empire. Rogal is the best to fortify the empire. Sanguinius (blessed be my sons name) is the right son to rule the empire.

That honor guard of 9000 Space Marines would have been enough to crush an entire star system cluster in modern 40k.

Guilliman's mom should have become an imperial saint and show back up to keep him humble, I mean then there is the part she stares down The Night Haunter.

I really liked to conversation between Guilliman and Euten, it really shows how she is like his mother. Like Konrad Curze said later in the book because she helped raise Guilliman he is the only Primarch to have a "mother".

Imagine the Lion and Guilliman in a heated discussion, then Euton appears, and she speaks: "Stop arguing this instant, or you will get no cookies after dinner" The Lion looks baffled that this little woman dared to speak to him that way, but he is more surprised when he sees Guilliman ashamed, hands behind his back, head bowed and with a pout he says: "Yes, mom. Sorry..."
  • I treasured every moment Guilliman and Euten interact. You can even see in the stern Guilliman a glimpse of warmth and tenderness each time he addressed her

Ultramarine: We feel inferior to the Dark Angels because they are the first legion to serve the Emperor. Guilliman: Daddy's home. Dark Angels: We are jealous of those mineral pigments because their dad's back while our dad is sleeping his ass off like the galaxy is not on fire.

Ive gained a deeper respect for the Primarch's due to this channel. Now as a result I'm giving different chapters I wasn't initially intrigued by another look. Thanks Wolf Lord Rho.
  • One of the most Badass characters in the 40k Universe, being verbally demolished by Euten. It makes you think what the other primarchs would have turned out like, if they had someone to metaphorically clip them around the ear.

That is a great scene. I feel the Lion has been written very differently from book to book. This was my favorite portrayal of him. I love that he embraced Robby. It contributes to the idea that the Lion may be socially awkward, but he is not a machine. He cares for others, at least some others, but is not sure how to interact with people. Other depictions of him, I think, go too far into uncaring machine territory. I found the description of him as not understanding his underlings or their capabilities hard to swallow. How can you be one of the best generals ever and not know what your people can do?

Im not going to lie, I think its super cute how Guilliman refer to the Lion as 'My Big Brother' to Euten. Its tiny, but I love those human moments between the Primarchs. Despite everything, they are siblings - and I find it incredibly precious.
  • I think Robute is far more sensitive than the lore has let on. There are examples - his encounter with Kor Phaeron, his thoughts about Konor where he just misses his dad. I think even his dedication to organisational skill could be a way to compensate for the deep wellspring of feelings he truly experienced. Guilliman had a mother figure, rare for the Primarchs. Feudal Lord meets the Democratic Leader. I love how similar they are yet reach such different results

The Lion, being a stone cold badass as per usual, polite, but tactful and watchful. We really need the Lion at the head of the Unforgiven.
  • I am a First Legion guy. The Lion all the way. I have the audio of this book and this is my favorite part to replay. The meeting tells you SO much about the two primarchs. Roboute felt that he needed to justify himself to the Lion, that he was overshadowed by him. The Lion had legitimate affection for Guilliman, but was willing to "burn and splinter Macragge" if necessary. The Lion did not ever build HIS own empire, it was all for his father. Guilliman saw the 500 worlds as his own, an issue of vanity. I like Roboute, but the Lion is my guy.
