Kris is one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and he's a great actor. He was born in 1936 in Brownsville, Texas. He's 87 years old.
He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. At Oxford, he was rewarded a Blue for boxing.
Then, he became a captain in the United States Army. He completed Ranger School.
Then, he got a job as a commercial helicopter pilot.
One day, he landed his helicopter right on Johnny Cash's front lawn. That got Johnny's attention. Soon after that, Johnny recorded Kris's song Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down. In 1970, Kris won Songwriter of the Year for that song at the Country Music Association Awards.
Kris's acting is great in the great movies Convoy, Big Top Pee Wee, Blade 1-3, Songwriter, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea, Trouble in Mind, Lone Star, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (which also starred Bob Dylan), and many more movies.
In Blade, Kris played Blade's mentor Abraham Whistler. Wesley Snipes played the Marvel character Blade.
Big Top Pee Wee was Dylan's favorite movie of 1988. Kris is very funny in that movie.
In 1979, Kris and Rita Coolidge appeared on The Muppet Show.
In 1984, Kris and Willie and Johnny and Waylon formed The Highwaymen.
I saw The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea when I was around 15. I remember being very unnerved by it! I'm going to watch it again soon.
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore was Scorsese's fourth film. It became a TV show starring Linda Lavin, Vic Tayback, and Polly "Kiss my grits" Holliday.
I haven't seen Kris and Babs in A Star is Born yet. It's on my tbw list. I love the 1937 version starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March.
