Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision protecting people's right to have an abortion in the United States, will be overturned within a year, says reproductive rights attorney Kathryn Kolbert. In this electrifying call to action, she breaks down the systematic attack against reproductive freedom in the US and envisions what a post-Roe world could look like. "First, we've got to build a badass social justice movement," she says. (This talk was recorded December 3, 2021)

The fact that everything in her talk turned out to be right on the money and happened TODAY is astounding.

Normally you'd said "This aged well" as a joke. This woman nailed it like jumping off a roof blindfolded and landing on the point of a pin. :P
  • @dodforer6001
Holy Crap, her outlining of which states would ban abortion is really accurate.

Reversing Roe is a great Netflix Documentary with her in it. It was made in 2018.

I might add that in Europe and nations in Europe, Japan, South Korea, they offer all kinds of programs to help and support families raise infants after birth, something unheard of in America.
  • "Let's vote them out!" Uh... we can't? Gerrymandering and presidents who are elected on minority vote giving us lifetime appointments... political activism is somewhat futile by just the rules.

Who else is here after hearing the news? Looks like Mrs. Kolbert was right.

What do you do with an additional 1,000,000 unwanted persons in your society annually? Provide free health care, provide free college? Nah...just hire more police and build more jails.

Wow. Would love to hear from her today. Wonder what she thinks now, when she was so right back when this was filmed. She needs to be on every talk show that exists.

There are always smart people out there who see the writing on the wall before everyone else. She really called it here.

Luckily, I live in a state, Connecticut, that will most likely never make abortion illegal, and they are passing laws that will prohibit other states from suing abortion providers. We will be one of the few states that allow full medical choices for women.

“The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely — the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment,” -- 6/24/2022 She was unfortunately and terrifyingly right.
  • This is our time as women to take a seat at the table. Update laws and move toward a more compassionate and caring society that treats women and children with love and dignity.
  • @magoldma
She clearly understands the lagalities very well, but I think she is being unrealistic with regard to getting a constitutional amendment passed to protect abortion rights. Getting 2/3rd majorities to vote on anything these days is tough, but for abortion, Schumer can't even get 51 Senators to overcome the filibuster to vote for abortion rights.

Very few of us took this seriously. Now we are on the precipice of losing everything including our democracy. This is about so much more than Roe v. Wade!
  • As a college student I cd not have been able to have a child or even had a abortion unless it was free. I had student aid jobs that paid 2-dollars an hour. Somehow I got through college on this. I worry about young women like myself.
  • In 2017 when Nancy Pelosi said the Democratic Party should not focus on Roe, the first heartbeat legislation was introduced. Heartbeat legislation defines abortion of an embryo with electrical heart circuitry as ‘homicide’. In 2017 Nancy Pelosi also welcomed Joe Manchin’s input. Can we have a new political party please?
