2019's Resident Evil 2 and 2023's Dead Space- two excellent games that rank among the best survival horror games ever made, and the best remakes ever made. Of course, it's no secret that if not for the stupendous success of RE2, Dead Space (and a great many other games) would not have been greenlit by its publisher in the first place- but when it comes to quality, both stand on a roughly equal footing.

But is there one that has a leg up over the other? Both are the new standard bearers for survival horror games and for remakes, but are both truly precisely neck and neck, or does one manage to eke out a victory in this battle of the giants? Here, we'll be going over several aspects of both games before ultimately trying to answer that very question.

  • I do agree, if REmake 2 wasn't the big success it was we wouldn't have gotten the Dead Space remake. Or the Silent Hill 2 remake as well.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to wait until March and do this video with the RE4 Remake?

Gotta give audio to deadspace, you can hear isaac slowly going insane with whispers, and its just on another level overall
  • The Deadspace remake is a real achievement. It's got me staying up late just to explore more.
  • It’s fair to say both games deserve to be highly rated; both in survival horror and as remakes. I will always favour RE2 because I played the original as a kid and the remake managed to surpass my expectations. Shame RE3 fell below expectations. Just hope RE4 pulls it off was well as RE2

Honestly both are great games, but even the original Dead Space still holds up after all these years. Dead Space Remake is just amplifying that energy.

I would think Dead Space would come out ahead in this comparison; it had an additional 4 years of technological advancement and industry experience DNA to work with.

Both are masterpieces. Either one could beat the other in my opinion. I love Resident Evil and like Dead Space. So edge goes to RE 😁

For me, what helps RE2 is the fact that I never played the original, I was too young. So I was blown away away by the remake.

That must be such a great feeling for the team at Motive. To have it even be a question between DS and the gold standard of remakes RE2 is an achievement in itself. Both are S tier remakes. And both are great for different reasons. For being the most starkly different from the original, while keeping the story and themes, and providing what feels like a new experience, it goes to RE2. But RE2 is missing some content. DS not only includes the fat original game experience in a way that doesn’t feel different, but they’ve also added content that further enhances it. However, it is still basically the same experience at it’s core where RE2 is night and day compared to how the original looked and played. Personally I prefer Dead Space, but do love the RE2 remake as well. They are neck and neck though and it could go either way depending on a player’s own preferences.
  • Excellent content quickly becoming one of my top channels thanks for all the hard work and effort!

Both are probably the best remakes so far, can add Mafia to the list as well
  • I can't knock the RE series that continues to pave the way. It gave inspiration to DS and again for DS 2023. Thus, why I'm in a love triangle with both. DS is a sci-fi horror dream, RE is what that dream is made of. Chef's kiss to both, each the best in class in their own right.
  • Dead space. It added to the experience without removing locations and enemies.

I absolutely love both. But I gotta say, dead space RIGHT NOW takes it. The way I see it, because of the influence RE4 had on both franchises, the RE2 remake vs OG RE2 are so different in game style that RE2 remake might as well stand on its own without the remake tag. This doesn’t take away anything from RE2 remake though. Without it, we probably wouldn’t be seeing old games getting this remake treatment today. That’s why I’ll say that I’m EXCITED for that RE4 remake. The game which basically changed the way third-person shooters even play today. Being able to replay through the story with the game mechanics we have today? Perfect OG Dead Space was basically an improved RE4 system. Then with the Dead Space Remake, keeps the game style it formed on the back of RE4, while adding, polishing, and improving everything from the ground up. If you’d put two videos of them side-by-side and hit play, you’d easily make the comparisons on where they improved on the OG system. It’s not just a graphics remaster. Everything about it really brought me back to when I first played dead space. This is how I remembered it to be but of course going back to the OG, it looks like a potato. But the way it plays is still very comparable. Do that both RE2s, and you’d ask what exactly did they improve on the original system because they play so, so different. So as a REMAKE, I think this is why I’d give it to Dead Space rn.
  • I remember playing dead space with tank controls and pixelated graphics..its revolutionary how dead space remake changed everything from ground up the controls the camera graphics the gameplay.. Drastic change from the original
  • I will only listen to this guy's reviews. His positive attitude and genuine love for gaming have won me over. Keep us the good work, sir!
