A private recording of the Evening Canticles, Valediction of Choristers & Anthem which took place during a live Choral Evensong at Hereford Cathedral on 9 October 1982, with the cathedral choir, directed by Roy Massey.

This recording is rare because it includes the ceremony for the Valediction and Admission of Choristers, together with the appointment of a new Head Chorister (Robert Macdonald, who sang the treble solos in the canticles and anthem on that day). These ceremonies, which take place in most cathedrals in one form or another, are hardly ever recorded.

  • I think that is Simon Hollingworth and Martin Jenkins leaving, Dominic Gould, Richard Moore, Alexander Hickey and Jonathan Hough becoming choristers, Philip Barnes as tenor lay clerk, Alex Draper as deputy and Robert Macdonald as hc. Alan Shaw precentor and Philip Barrett vicar choral officiating.
